Update on LMIA Advertising Requirements: Direct Apply on Job Bank

What is Direct Apply?

Direct Apply, which is enabled by default on Job Bank postings, allows authorized job seekers to submit their resumes directly. Employers can then manage, download, and store these applications through their Job Bank account. Importantly, Service Canada requires employers to consider these applications as part of their recruitment efforts. Disabling Direct Apply or ignoring resumes may be viewed as failing to meet advertising requirements.

Why This Matters

The 21-day removal policy raises important questions. Will employers receive a warning before postings are taken down? If a posting is removed, does the 30-day advertising period need to restart? These uncertainties could create delays and added costs for employers relying on timely recruitment.

What Employers Should Do Now

Until more information is available, employers should review all Direct Apply resumes promptly to avoid disruptions. Being proactive will help ensure postings remain active and that recruitment efforts are fully recognized by Service Canada.
