Provincial Nominee Programs
Canada consists of several provinces / territories (equivalent to US “states”) and each operates its own Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). The first step is to apply to the particular province / territory under the relevant program offered. If you meet the criteria for the program, the province will ‘nominate’ you. The next step is to then apply to the federal government who will review the nomination and will also perform medical, criminal and security screening.

Canadian Immigration Frequently Asked Questions
Not necessarily. Some Provincial Nominee Programs are not aligned with Express Entry (which is a points-based file management system). There are also major immigration programs which feed into Express Entry such as the Canadian Experience Class which are pass/fail rather than points-based.
If you are working or have an approved job offer, you may not have to show settlement funds. Otherwise, many programs require that you demonstrate sufficient funds.
We have been advised that reputations do, in fact, matter, despite messaging on government websites that it makes no difference if you have retained a representative. We have also seen applications returned by the government when the applicant did not use a lawyer or used a different representative or applied on their own. Avoiding back-and-forth with the Immigration Department and being approved “on the papers” without the need for an immigration interview all results in faster processing times.
Besides the legal fees and government fees, there are fees relating to biometrics, police clearances and medicals. We provide quotes for legal fees after a consultation session where we evaluate the complexity of your case. Contact us at [email protected] for a proper assessment.
